NATA Exam Guide

If you’re someone who loves to sketch spaces, analyze structures, or visualize cities of tomorrow, architecture might just be your calling. And the National Aptitude Test in Architecture—NATA—is the first step toward making that dream real.

In this guide, we’ll take you through everything you need to know about NATA, the career paths it unlocks, and how Vantage can help you get there.

What is NATA?

NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) is conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA) and is the gateway to 5-year B.Arch programs in India’s top architecture colleges (except IITs and NITs, which accept JEE).

It’s not just another test—it’s designed to assess your aesthetic sensitivity, spatial ability, logical thinking, and drawing aptitude—everything that defines a future architect.

NATA Exam Pattern

As of 2025, NATA is conducted multiple times a year, and you can appear in one or more sessions. The highest score is considered for admission.

Exam Highlights

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Mode: Online (at designated centers)
  • Type: MCQs, MSQs, NAQs
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Subjects Covered:
    • Cognitive & Logical Reasoning
    • Visual Perception & Design Sensitivity
    • Environmental & Architectural Awareness

There is no negative marking, and you get your results within a few days of taking the exam.

What is the Eligibility Criteria?

To appear for NATA, you must:

  • Have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry & Math (PCM)
  • Minimum 50% aggregate in Class 12
  • No upper age limit
  • You can take the exam multiple times to improve your score

What Comes After NATA? Career Possibilities

NATA-qualified students can pursue a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) at top colleges like CEPT Ahmedabad, Sir JJ College of Architecture, and many state universities and private institutions.

Once you graduate, career paths include:

  • Architectural Designer (residential, commercial, urban)
  • Urban Planner
  • Landscape Architect
  • Interior Designer
  • Sustainability Consultant
  • Heritage Conservationist
  • Set Designer (films & exhibitions)
  • 3D Visualizer or BIM Expert

Architecture is one of the few careers that lets you blend creativity with engineering, shaping real environments where people live, work, and connect.
