If you’re passionate about design innovation, crave deeper design education, and see yourself shaping products, experiences, or systems on a global scale, CEED is your next big step.
Whether you’re an engineer with a creative itch or a designer aiming higher—CEED opens the doors to India’s top postgraduate design programs, especially at the IITs and IISc.
What is CEED?
CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by IIT Bombay for admission into M.Des (Master of Design) and Ph.D. in Design programs at:
- IIT Bombay
- IIT Delhi
- IIT Guwahati
- IIT Hyderabad
- IISc Bangalore
- IIITDM Jabalpur
- And many more design-focused institutes
The exam emphasizes not just design skills, but your analytical thinking, problem-solving, technical knowledge, and design process—perfect for bridging creativity and strategy.
CEED Exam Pattern (Updated for 2025)
CEED consists of two parts, and both are crucial:
Part A (1 Hour) – Computer-Based
- Objective-type questions
- Topics: Visual & spatial ability, design awareness, logical reasoning, language, environmental awareness, and creativity
- Marked and used for shortlisting
Part B (2 Hours) – Pen and Paper
- Descriptive questions that test drawing, creativity, form sensitivity, problem identification, and design thinking
- Evaluated manually
- Final CEED score = 25% of Part A + 75% of Part B
What is the Eligibility Criteria?
To appear for CEED:
- You must have completed a bachelor’s degree (in design, engineering, architecture, fine arts, etc.)
- There is no age limit
- You can appear for the exam multiple times
What Comes After CEED? Career Possibilities
A CEED-qualified designer is industry-ready and often lands roles that combine creativity with leadership and innovation. Career options include:
- UX/UI Designer (high demand in tech startups and corporates)
- Product Designer (physical and digital products)
- Design Researcher
- Service Designer
- Interaction Designer
- Creative Technologist
